In the course of helping the neighbor unpack, I found the abalone shell he
uses as an incense tray when he burns wild sage from time to time. Now he
definitely knows just how much fun I can have being distracted by shiny
things to photograph!

Pretty - at first I thought it was some sort of petrified tree - abalone makes much more sense...
The ring-like layering so reminiscent of tree growth is one of the things I love best about abalone shells :).
