Can you imagine how long it took to build this? I think it was over a mile
long and about thigh high. I think it might help keep deer off the road, or
maybe it's just decorative?

Wow! That's an impressive stone wall. Deer will jump that easily. Stone walls or fences were built to mark property lines. When farmers picked the stones out of their fields they had to do something with them. It takes a lot of time to build a wall like that.
That is impressive - I can't imagine how much work went into that wall.
