It’s fledging time all over the valley; kestrels and hawks followed crows
and magpies by a few days, and not one baby is the least bit thrilled by
this “find your OWN food” thing! Robins were chasing their parents all over
Sula in mid-June, and now corvids are getting bothered only a little less
aggressively by frustrated offspring working their feathery butts off to try
to figure out why the begging call isn’t getting them fed any more. Like
most teenagers, if they put half the energy into the lesson at hand that
they do into howling about not wanting to do it, they’d be done in half the
time, just like me in junior high!
